WHY DOES IT MATTER

With increased activity on the Thames, unless we take action on the outcomes of the Thames Review, more people are likely to get injured or killed by accidents. It is estimated that without further intervention, the numbers of incidents and fatalities may double. We need to take meaningful action and find solutions for this matter of concern, helping us to put the Thames amongst the safest waterbodies in the world. Lives are not only lost on the Thames of course - so where appropriate, we are looking to exploit and scale the solutions to other areas.

 

 

RESEARCH

Apart from doing paper research, we visited Port of London Authority (PLA) Headquarter to understand more about PLA controlling systems, rescue method and facilities. Speaking with the front line pilots and sea safety officers, we had a clearer picture of the current situation and operation limitations.  

HOW DOES IT WORK

1. Data Collection Thames Information Platform (TIP) in the bollards will receive all the data collected from user who encrypts it and sends to the cloud, it can creates a unique data set for the Thames.

2. Buoyster App For short term development, Buoyster app is a transformation of TIP services. A platform for people to get live informations about Thames Path. Also Buoyster app can helps organizations to determine the suitable development strategy and facilities to tackle any specific issues.

3. Data Processing In 2030, By collecting emotion data from people, we will be able to analyse these data and find out potential life threatening actions from human. Meanwhile it will archive data for future reference.

4. Scenario Analysis Buoyster can also indicate notional safety boundary when people go pass the advised limitation. With this function and the collected emotional data, the system can analyze if it should send alert to TIP for immediate action to avoid any life harming incidents.

Buoyster is one of the entries in the Safety Grand Challenge - Safe Ship Boarding 2017. Our intelligent bollard system was exhibited in the RNLI Headquarter in Poole UK and Lloyd's Register Foundations in London.
