DEGREE PROJECT

MUSY

Brings simplicity back to music

BACKGROUND

Year: 2017
Time: 16 weeks
Project type: Product & inclusive design
Main Focus: An inclusive design to connect the digital platform with actual object.

WHAT IS MUSY

MUSY brings simplicity back to music-listening, bridging music lovers of all ages and background to the digital music world - a home essential and a present for your family memeber. It is playful yet user-friendly, and without reliance on smart devices. By integrating the limitless digital music database into one single player, MUSY makes music easy. It can be your country guitarist in a Sunday afternoon, transform into a jazz performer as you and your loved ones enjoy a romantic home-cook dinner, or even become an entire classical orchestra when you spend quality time with yourself.

WHY MUSY

MUSY is a professional music player that comes with an enormous database of audio files. It does not require any additional input or downloading actions. Even without a computer or a smart device, you can still have access to a wide range of music through MUSY. The difficult task of explaining the steps to ‘playing a song’ to the elderly at home is no longer - all it takes now is three simple moves!

WHY IT MATTERS

The inspiration behind MUSY sparked from a typo Keri’s grandmother made in their family group chat. A lot of elderly are very keen on staying connected to their family’s lives and habits through digital platforms, yet the ever-changing technology has become a dividing barrier for them. From connecting to the internet, downloading an application, registering an account to exploring the app's functionality, the use of a smart device complicate a simple task - listening to music. MUSY, on the other hand, allow you to play your favourite music in three simple gestures; everyone, including elderly and toddlers, can enjoy music from the digital world as they please.

UX WORKSHOP

We hosted a workshop with the University of Third Age taught them how to navigate digital music platforms. It was a good chance to understand what do they think about fast growing online music services (e.g Spotify). At the end of the workshop, we shared the prototypes to have some user testing for further development.
